About Us

The Cape Tourist Guides Association (CTGA) can trace its roots back to the mid 1970's when a group of persons undertaking guided tours decided to form an association.

Today, the CTGA acts as a pressure group, as a consultative body on matters concerning guiding and provides constant professional updating to its members supplied through a programme of talks, workshops and site inspections. Our members are kept updated on current information and new issues relating to the Tourism and Guiding sectors.

It represents a significant number of registered tourist guides with diverse backgrounds, interests, geographic locations and languages in the Western Cape. Members range from those legally accredited to guide a particular site or limited geographic area, to those who guide several provinces, to some who have the coveted National accreditation allowing them to guide throughout South Africa.

The Association is membership-based and functions through an Executive Committee made up of members of which have areas of responsibility and portfolios. They give freely of their time and provide support and advice to the members on both CTGA policy and day-to-day issues. Members of the Committee represent the Association and guiding community on various governmental and quasi-governmental bodies. The Executive Committee are nominated annually at the AGM.

Our Mission Statement:

The CTGA strives for professionalism, representation, upliftment of the knowledge base and integrity within the Tourist Guiding Industry and is committed to the growth and recognition thereof for the benefit of all its members.

Refer to the Constitution of the Cape Tourist Guides Association, Feb 2010, for more information about the Association. (Please note that this constitution is currently under review Jan 2012.)
