AARDVARK
NATURE RESERVE
The Aardvark
Nature Reserve is 40 km from Riversdale on the R323 (also 27 km
from the Route 62). Our fascinating reserve lies in the Succulent
Little Karoo, a desert biome with the highest diversity of succulent
plants in the world, splendid bird, reptile, mammal and insect life,
amazing geological formations, fossils and much more! Experience our
stunning diversity of plant life, consisting of a large variety of succulents
and other veld flowers. The typical Karoo scrubveld is alive with
smaller creatures, ranging from rodents to mongooses, dassies, porcupines,
honey badgers, Cape fox, caracal and the ever-present aardwolf and aardvark.
Antelope species are represented by red hartebeest, gemsbok, kudu, springbok,
duiker and steenbok. No less that 183 bird species have been recorded
to date.
